Modern services of positioning based on the use of GNSS satellite technologies (Global Navigation Satellite System), evolving from static GNSS to real time positioning need complementary systems at regional, national or local level. The National Network of GNSS Permanent Stations is both a modality of modernizing the National Geodetic Network and the nucleus of a coherent infrastructure for the general cadastre works. ANCPI is developing the ROMPOS (Romanian Position Determination System) which will mark the evolution to real time positioning. The achievement of ROMPOS based on EUPOS (European Position Determination System) will allow for the ANCPI purposes to be met in the field of cadastre and geodesy and will ensure quality services for related areas (engineering surveys, emergency services, and disaster management, navigation monitoring, etc.). Based on EUPOS recommendations, ROMPOS will be available at any time and from any place in Romania, covering the entire Romanian territory by 48 GNSS permanent stations in 2008 and aiming at reaching 73 in 2009. The national system of ROMPOS services delivery will be part of EUPOS. Achievement standards will be compatible. By integrating ROMPOS to EUPOS, its connectivity to similar European systems will be ensured, allowing a uniform positioning even for the border lines. ANCPI has already successfully tested this year (2008) the possibility of interconnecting ROMPOS to a similar system in Hungary. A large number of users (geodesy and cadastre firms, natural persons licensed in geodesy, equipment producers, etc.) were able to test the new horizons opened by real time ROMPOS services (DGNSS/RTK). ROMPOS services launching is planned for September this year (2008). [Geodesy and Cartography Directorate]
